Details have emerged of a plan to impeach Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho instead of Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Revealed: MPs plan to impeach Kibicho instead of Matiang'i
MPs turn against PS Kibicho
The People Daily reported that signatures were being collected by a faction of Jubilee MPs to have Kibicho impeached for allegedly disrespecting Deputy President William Ruto.
Reports have claimed that a number of MPs allied to Dr Ruto are said to have appended their signatures to the list of those seconding Kibicho’s removal from office.
Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama and his Alego-Usonga counterpart Samuel Atandi claimed that Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was spearheading efforts to collect signatures in support of the anti-Kibicho motion.
Opposing impeachment
Kibicho is said to have rubbed the Ruto allies the wrong way following his alleged directive to regional and county commissioners not to honour functions organized by Ruto and MPs allied to him.
Early, it had been reported that MPs were seeking to have CS Matiang’i impeached over gross misconduct and allegations of involvement in the gold scam.
However, the proposal to impeach the Interior CS was dropped after fears it could affect Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
Fear the 'chief minister'
According to reports in the dailies, MPs allied to Ruto said CS Matiang’i seems to enjoy large political following nationally which could be pernicious to the DP’s political career.
Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale dismissed reports of plans to impeach Matiang’i.
Duale said even though MPs had powers to table any motion in Parliament to have a cabinet Secretary removed, they are aware they must conform to the requirements of the Constitution.
