Senior IEBC official to quit after conducting elections
Days after concluding elections, details have emerged that a senior IEBC official could quit for...
The revelations were made by UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq who was addressing the press.
According to Mr Haq, Dr. Akombe was still an employee of UN and her position was intact.
“I am aware that she was on a leave of absence. At some point, I believe, fairly soon, it will be expiring and then she will return to her duties in the Department of Political Affairs.
"Ms. Akombe, at some point, will re-join the Department of Political Affairs, and then she’ll be a UN staffer,” Mr Haq stated.Dr Akombe took unpaid leave from UN to work for the Electoral Body. When contacted by a local daily about the reports of quitting the electoral body, the commissioner could not confirm nor deny.“It is too early for me to make any decision on my future. My goal right now is to support our team that will be making our case at the Supreme Court,” Dr Akombe was quoted by the Nation.
The commissioner was referring to NASA's 25,000-page election petition filed on Friday led by their leader Raila Odinga.
The Opposition leader has refused to concede defeat to President Uhuru Kenyatta claiming the results were computer-generated.
On the other hand, the President has welcomed Odinga's petition applauding his decision for using the court to challenge the results.
