All Safaricom Shops will be closed for four hours on Thursday in memory of former Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Bob Collymore.

Safaricom said the shops will be closed from 10.30am to 2.30pm, during a Memorial Service which will be held at the All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.

A statement from Safaricom read: “As a mark of respect for our cherished leader, Safaricom shall be closing all our shops countrywide on Thursday 4th July 2019 between the hours of 10.30am and 2.30pm.”

The body of the former Safaricom CEO was cremated at a private event in Nairobi on Tuesday where on family and very close friends were invited.

A hearse carrying the remains of Mr Collymore, left Lee Funeral Home at 10.15am alongside a convoy of vehicles ferrying invited guests.

In October 2017, Collymore traveled to the United Kingdom to receive treatment for Acute Myloid Leukemia (AML) and returned in July last year to resume his duties.

He has been credited for leading Safaricom to profitability, the telco recently reporting a 14.7 per cent increase in net profits standing at Ksh63.4 billion for its year ending March 2019.
