Suspected Nairobi fraudster Jared Otieno was on Thursday morning arrested in the ongoing crackdown on conmen who have been scamming foreigners with fake gold deals
Otieno, however, is not new to controversy as he is currently battling a court case where he is accused of conning a Brazilian national Sh23 million by pretending to be in a position to sell and ship for him 8kgs of gold to Dubai.
He initially grabbed national headlines in 2015 when he flew in a chopper to attend a dowry ceremony in Meru – a ceremony that was attended by prominent politicians from across the political divide.
Otieno is a man with a taste for the finer things in life, even though little is known about his businesses.
Indeed, Pulse Live Kenya can independently report that Otieno bought a luxurious villa for Sh105 million which he paid in cash.
The house was bought from Cytonn Investments in 2016 on an off-plan basis.
It was eventually completed in early 2018 after which Otieno started moving his belongings to the high-end estate christened Amara Ridge.
Amara Ridge is one of the city’s most exclusive luxurious developments comprising of ten villas, five built in contemporary style and another five having the Greek classic design - one of which Otieno owned.
The self-styled flamboyant businessman’s four-bedroom Greek classic house sat majestically on a half-acre piece of land with an outdoor swimming pool and fluffy Arabica grass in the garden.
Otieno’s parking lot had two flashy cars – a Porsche and a Bentley- which were also confiscated by the DCI.
