Student mess hall at JKUAT on fire

A section of JKUAT main campus in Juja, Kiambu County, was on Monday razed down after a fire broke out.

The morning incident saw the students’ mess and several retail shops burnt to the ground.

OCPD Simon Thirikwa who confirmed the accident, stated that there were no casualties in the tragedy that occurred at around 4am.

Thirikwa however could not explain the cause of the fire.

In 2016, the campus suffered another fire outbreak that burnt down Hall 6 and led to a riot by the students.

The fire had spread and razed down the men’s hostel.

The learners had engaged police officers in running battles after protesting against the late response made by the fire rescue team to the situation.
