Why UoN students risk going home this Monday

The students have accused the university administration of conspiring to delay the polls until after August 8.

The students have cited delayed SONU elections, claiming that various personal interests have been reserved in the elections.

As a result, students have vowed to demonstrate on Monday against the varsity's alleged plans to push forward SONU elections.

SONU chairman aspirants Ronnie Mamba and Mike Jacobs (who was expelled last time following chaotic elections) on Friday said the plan is being executed through a series of amendments in the SONU constitution.

They were joined by Jamal Birkan who is eyeing the position of secretary general.

"Why is it that the constitution of Sonu is being amended only weeks to elections?" Mamba asked.

"Why is it that 90 per cent of the amendments target Article 18 which focuses on elections? We know this is an election year and there are interests from dark forces who don't want a strong Sonu which can hold the government to account."

They accused the UoN administration of colluding with the current Sonu officials to embezzle millions of shillings from the organisation.

"We wonder why students have not been issued with the report of the audited accounts as we had demanded," Mamba said.

"We shall exercise our right to picket and demonstrate day and night. We will dance on the road until we ensure Sonu is restored," Mamba said.

The students said they will take over the University Way, State House road and adjacent roads.

"We are asking the administration to kindly but urgently call for Sonu elections," Birkan said.

The students have vowed to paralyse learning across all campuses.
