Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has warned school principals against direct admission of Form Ones.

The CS asked principals not to issue admission letters directly to parents and only admit students who downloaded the letters from the ministry's website.

CS Mohammed further conveyed that it is illegal to issue the Form 1 calling letters from the schools.

"Schools must admit students only through Nemis (National Education Management Information System), no school should violate the ministry guidelines.

"This way, we will get real time information for the students as they report," she stated.

Students joining secondary schools will now use their Nemis account details to gain admission.

UPI Number

Nemis assigns a Unique Personal Identifier (UPI) number which helps track the student's progress through various levels of the Kenyan education system.

"Students without Unique Personal Identifier (UPI) numbers will be expected to be issued with the same as soon as possible and not later than one month.

"Since enrollment data is from the system, schools are informed that the process should not be circumvented at all," CS Mohammed explained.

Students who have been placed in various schools will begin reporting between January 7 and January 11.
