Students from JKUAT university took to the streets on Friday over the murder of one of their colleagues who was stabbed to death.

Through a statement issued by the institution, the student who was identified as Tabitha Muthoni Mwangi, was killed during a robbery incident on Thursday night.
Mwangi, a first-year student, together with another female friend, were attacked as they were heading back to their hostel located outside the university.
“In the process, they were accosted by two men who emerged from the nearby thicket, and demanded all they were carrying.
“The thugs then stabbed Tabitha on the left side near the heart before taking off with the money and other valuables. The friend was fortunately not hurt during the robbery,” read a part of the statement.
Rushed to hospital
By standers who had responded to the cry for help, rushed the student to hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival due to excessive bleeding.
Earlier reports had indicated that Mwangi was stabbed after she refused to give up her valuables during the incident.
The deceased’s body had been moved to Kenyatta University Mortuary as police began investigations into the matter.
Students from the public university had earlier blocked the road in protest against the incompetence by the police to tackle the high level of insecurity around the institution.
High level of insecurity at JKUAT
In July 2018, police recovered the body of a female student who had been reported missing after she had gone out partying with her friends.
The body of Tabitha Kitaa Kiiti was found outside the hostels only identified as Oasis located near the campus Gate C.
Police at the time had believed the student might have been murdered and had stated that investigations into the incident were ongoing.
