"He was drinking so much"

The Late Kenneth Matiba's nephew James Gathukia commits suicide in Murang'a

A nephew to the late veteran politician Kenneth Matiba was on Tuesday found dead in his house in Murang'a county.

The 44-year-old man identified as James Gathukia was found by his brother David Mureithi dangling from the roof of his house.

Murang’a East Police Commander Alex Muasyia confirmed the incident adding that it was reported to them at 9 a.m.

the officer confirmed that the deceased did not leave a suicide note and no other injuries were found on his body by the time it was recovered.

Son to Mzalendo Saba Saba Asili Chairman George Gachungu Mwithi

Gathukia was the son of Mzalendo Saba Saba Asili national chairman George Gachungu Mwithi. The party was founded by the late Matiba.

Speaking to journalists, Mr Mwithi speculated that his son may have opted for suicide as a result of poor financial prudence.

Mwithi explained that his son was an alcoholic and he had refused to get a job that would support his lifestyle.

"It’s an unfortunate incident. I had tried to persuade him to resume working but he declined. Instead he used his pension to drink and he might have decided to commit suicide after using all the savings," he stated.
