In a public notice issued by Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura), motorists have been cautioned that the Ruaraka Interchange will be closed off to along for the erection of concrete beams that will hold up an overpass.
"Thika Bound Service Road at Ruaraka Interchange shall be partly closed on Saturday, August 31st & Sunday 1st September , 2019 from 6 AM to 5 PM to enable installation of concrete beams for Outer Ring road junction overpass," the notice read.
Lanes on Thika Superhighway closed
At the beginning of the month, the contractor closed off the inner lanes of the superhighway leaving only the to outer lanes in the area in operation.
The closure caused a snarl up that stretched far back past the Garden City Mall.
Kura is in the process of building an overpass that will link the newly revamped Outer Ring Road to the superhighway to ease traffic at the GSU headquarters junction.
For the duration of the construction project, Thika-bound traffic from Outer Ring has been diverted to use the Survey of Kenya underpass while airport-bound traffic from CBD has been diverted to connect with Outer Ring from the Garden City overpass.
For the coming weekend, a build up is expected along Outer Ring as motorists struggle to squeeze through the narrowed service lane.
