The Friday night accident involved a police vehicle that was ferrying General Service Unit (GSU) officers from Nairobi to Mombasa and a truck heading in the opposite direction.
According to Taita Taveta county traffic base commander Silas Wanyonyi, a trailer rammed into the police van at Voi, leaving several people injured.
Emergency rescue teams who rushed to the scene of the crash ferried the injured to Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi for treatment.
“The officers are currently receiving treatment at the county referral hospital. We are investigating the cause of the accident,” Wanyonyi said.
The Hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Gitau Kagona confirmed that the facility had received 8 casualties all of whom were in stable condition.
“Some of them will be admitted and others treated and discharged.” Kagona said.
“As we speak some of them are at the X-Ray centre and others are being attended to by our doctors,” he added.
