Siaya Senator James Orengo on Wednesday evening explained his newfound support for President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying it was grounded on the head of state’s commitment to the war against corruption.

Orengo disclosed that he had held a one-on-one meeting President Kenyatta which convinced him that the war against graft was genuine.

“I probably should not say this, but I spent four hours with Uhuru – me and him alone – and I was convinced that he means what he says about the fight against corruption.”

“If there is anything that motivated us to join the handshake, it is the commitment to fight corruption. Both the DCI and DPP have a lot of energy and they need support and qualified investigators,” the Senate Minority Leader stated.

He went on to say that he and other members of the Opposition would not tire in their support for the war against graft.

Orengo went on to accuse Deputy President William Ruto of sabotaging the President’s efforts in dealing with graft.

He went on to challenge the DP to record a statement on the alleged corruption in the construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams in Elgeyo Marakwet.

“On this matter (the dam scandal), the Deputy President has made several public statements that show he should record a statement with the DCI and give the information that he has even,” the Senior Counsel said.

On politics, Orengo said ODM was working on a plan that would see President Kenyatta and his party leader Raila Odinga in the same camp.
