Kenyans took to social media to expose the water lodged State House, exposing laxity by the Nairobi County government to work on the city drainage system.

Nairobi has started experiencing long and heavy rains after many months of a drought.

The National Disaster Management Authority earlier cautioned city motorists to exercise extreme care while using roads.

Last year, over five deaths and several injuries were recorded following the collapse of the Ministry of Defense perimeter wall in Upper Hill Nairobi, thanks to the heavy rains.

Nairobi city planners have been blamed for the poor state of drainage system, which has been occasioned by blockage of water ways and illegal construction on the water paths.

The National Disaster Management Authority NDMA has already indicated that the roads may be widely affected by the rains.

“Due to the ongoing rains, water I collected on some parts of the roads. This means that some roads may be slippery and the visibility may be poor. So please obey traffic laws and regulations,” Deputy Director and Communications Officer of NDMU, Mwachi Pius has said.

Meanwhile, city residents are grappling with dry taps even as the main Ndakaini water dam water levels dropped to a 21 per cent historic level. The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has opted to ration the use of water, with supplies to some areas totally cut.
