County director angry with press coverage on embarrassing story

Wajir press director Ahmed Abdishaku attacks Citizen TV's Abdiqafar Hussein over embarrassing story

Wajir County press director Ahmed Abdishaku has been accused of attacking Citizen TV journalist Abdiqafar Hussein and destroying his equipment.

The press director allegedly attacked the journalist on Monday as he covered an event officiated by Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud.

According to the journalist, he was seeking a comment from farmers who had not received generators dished out by the governor when the director charged at him and damaged his camera.

It is believed that the county director did not wish to have a story reported that could embarrass the governor.

"He beat up my colleague from STN and then he hit my camera and broke the lens," the journalist relayed.

The journalist claims that no action has been taken despite having reported the incident to police.

The county director has, however, dismissed the reports by the journalists claiming that they were causing public disturbance.

Another journalist was recently arrested in the county after he covered a story highlighting the deplorable state of Wajir County Referral Hospital.

The incident comes just days after KTN journalists were attacked and their car torched by students in Machakos County.

St Stephens Girls school director similarly accused journalists of attacking him and trying to portray him in bad light.
