Deputy Governor Stuck in USA After Falling Sick since Dec 2018- Governor Says

DG fell ill in the USA- Governor spills

Governor John Lonyangapuo

The Senate Devolution Committee was informed on Tuesday that West Pokot deputy, Dr Nicholas Atudonyang was ill in the United States of America.

This information was brought forth by Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo who had a hard time explaining the absence of his deputy to the committee.

My deputy governor comes on and off... he left Kenya for the USA on December 2018 and was to return to the country in April 2019. That did not happen because he fell ill,” Prof Lonyangapuo said.

He is a practising neurosurgeon. I am told he is still unwell, though I am not sure if he, indeed, is ailing,” he added.

Looking for Donors

Lonyangapuo emphasised his previous claims that Atudonyang is in the USA to look for donors to benefit the people of West Pokot.

The governor further told the committee despite Atudonyang’s absence from the county, he is working around the clock to get medical donations from the US.

According to Prof Lonyangapuo, Dr Atudonyang does not earn a salary since he was hardly ever in the country.

No Salary for DG

I, thereafter, told him it won’t be possible for him to continue earning a salary as the deputy governor, yet he is hardly in the county," Prof Lonyangapuo said.

"He agreed to forego his salary, beginning in September 2018. Even when he travels, he is not facilitated by the county government,” he continued.

The governor informed the committee that he cannot fire his deputy because he had not anything wrong apart from being absent.
