In an unfortunate turn of events, Mukuha's wife - Monica Wanjiru Gashwe - on Monday succumbed to an illness that had her admitted at the Aga Khan University Hospital.
Coincidentally, the former Chairman's wife died exactly three Mondays after her husband died at the same hospital from a heart attack.
"It is with humble acceptance of God's will that we announce the death of Monica Wanjiru Gashwe after a long illness bravely borne at Aga Khan University Hospital.
"The cortege will depart from Lee Funeral Home on Thursday 19th September 2019 at 9am for a funeral service at PCEA Nairobi West church at 9:45am and thereafter proceed to her resting place at Lang'ata Cemetery," an obituary published in the Daily Nation read in part.
Naivas Estate in contest
The Naivas estate has been contested in court since the chain stores founder Peter Mukuha Kago died in 2010.
Gashwe's brother Newton Kagira filed a law suit against his siblings, who are Naivas directors, looking to have a shareholding stake in the company.
Kagira's law suits stopped the acquisition of Naivas by South Africa's Massmart which opted to set up Game Supermarket instead.
