2 polytechnic students remanded in Ekiti prison for alleged armed robbery
Two students of Crown Polytechnic have been remanded in prison over alleged armed robbery amongst other charges.
The accused — Adekunle, 24 and Tobiloba, 19 — both of Crown Polytechnic, Odo, via Ado-Ekiti, are facing charges of armed robbery and possession of dangerous weapons.
The Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Bayo Ajiboye, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 13 in Igede-Ekiti.
He alleged that the duo wore Army camouflage to extort money from motorists on Awo-Igede road.
Ajiboye said some motorists plying the road alerted the police which led to the arrest of the accused persons.
The prosecutor said the police recovered a jack knife and other dangerous weapons from them.
The offences contravened Section 2 (1) (a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special provisions) Act, 2004.
The case was adjourned to April 19 for mention.
