The former President’s sister-in-law Elizabeth Mumbi Githinji died on Sunday after a short illness.
Mrs. Githinji was also the mother to Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Miriithi who is Kibaki’s nephew.
Among those who sent messages of condolence included President Uhuru Kenyatta who described Elizabeth as a role model in her community.
“ We will always remember Mama Elizabeth as a lovely and dedicated Christian, who was kind and loving,” read the President’s message.
The council of Governor’s Chair Joseph Nanok also condoled with the family of the Laikipia Governor.
“On behalf of the Council of Governors and the 47 County Governments, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of HE Ndiritu Muriithi and the people of Laikipia County. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” Nanok stated in a press statement released on Sunday evening.
