Man, 26, arraigned for alleged N1.6m contract job scam

The Prosecutor said the complainant, Mr Mohammed Mufutau, gave the accused N1.6 million to execute a contract for him but he failed to do so.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, also granted the accused two sureties in like sum.

Banwo said one of the sureties must be blood relation of the accused, while the other surety should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

In addition, the sureties are required to produce evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government.

Adenekan, who resides at No. 36, Oguntola St., Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a charge of fraud.

The accused, however, denied the charge.

The accused, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, said committed the offence on March 29 at about 12.30 p.m. at Atan near Ota.

Gbesi said the complainant, Mr Mohammed Mufutau, gave the accused N1.6 million to execute a contract for him but he failed to do so.

“Efforts by the complainant to get his money were unsuccessful.”

The offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The case was adjourned until May 11 for mention.
