The plumber had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that he stole because he needed money to pay bills.
The Magistrate, Teribo Jim, who convicted Sati summarily after he pleaded guilty, however, gave him an option of N6,000 fine.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the stolen drum belonged to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) in Wuse Zone 3.
Jim warned Sati to desist from crime and be of good behaviour.
The plumber, who resides at Airport Junction, Abuja, had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that he stole because he needed money to pay bills.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Garba Musa, told the court that Mr Musa Maina of the AEPB reported the case at the Wuse Police Station on May 21.
He said that the plumber stole the drum at the AEPB premises.
The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code.
