Orengo Reveals 2 Dangerous Areas in Nairobi during Anti-IEBC Demos

Orengo spills beans on the areas to avoid during Anti-IEBC demos

He stated that it was the responsibility of the police to protest Kenyans during a demonstration carried out as per the constitution.

“We want to condemn Mr. Matiangi for saying that we cannot enjoy our freedom to demonstrate and picket. There are two High Court decisions which are very clear that when there is a demo in which the police has been notified it is the responsibility of the police to ensure that protection is given to those who are exercising that freedom and also to ensure those not taking part are protected,” he said.

Speaking during a press conference at Capitol Hill, Orengo mentioned that the protests are usually peaceful until the protesters arrive at two particular locations in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) in town.

The Senior Counsel pinpointed that Kencom and Koja Mosque areas as two dangerous areas where NASA’s peaceful supporters are met with violence.

“Normally when we start everything is clear and peaceful until we get into town around  Kencom and Koja Mosques when people try to bring problems," he said.

Orengo insisted that NASA protesters were peaceful. The Siaya Senator added that if the Government wants to stop NASA protests it ought to formally write to the Opposition revoking their request to protest.

“The law requires that they should notify us in writing why they are objecting our demonstrations. This has not been done therefore we are presuming what Matiang'i said is just hot air," the lawyer said.

Orengo noted that after the presser the NASA leaders were heading to the CBD to continue with the anti-IEBC protests.
