When a heated disagreement ensued, the local daily divulged that Chebukati excused himself’ and left the meeting saying he had other commitments.
He then asked CEO Ezra Chiloba to summarize what they had discussed and communicate to the country.
“Looks like the chairman was frustrated and didn’t want to own the decision of the plenary,” a source at IEBC was quoted.
As per sources privy to the meeting, Chebukati proposed to change the elections date from October 26, a suggestion that was refuted by the other Commissioners.
However, the IEBC chair has come out to clear the air on the reported divisions at the Commission.
Mr. Chebukati divulged that the Electoral Body was working together to ensure that the fresh elections take place on October 26.
"There may be differences of opinion but the commission is united and committed to deliver a credible, free and fair elections," he said in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu.
He also denied walking out of the meeting adding that he will not resign from the Commission.
