NASA’s Plan to Kick out Wetangula and Replace him with Orengo, Details
The NASA coalition is considering replacing one of its principals after...
Wetangula served in the last parliament as the leader of Minority but the Standard on Tuesday reported an advanced plan to demote the Ford Kenya party leader and replace him with James Orengo.
The Bungoma Senator is accused of having very poor numbers in both houses that do not qualify him to lead in the Senate.
Apart from belonging to ODM, which is the dominant party, Orengo is seen as providing fresh blood and deserving of a reward over his impressive representation of the coalition at the Supreme Court.
The decision became apparent on Monday when the CEO of the NASA secretariat, Norman Magaya, sent out a press statement dismissing a line-up of parliamentary seats released by ODM Chairman John Mbadi.
“Members feel that some partners like Ford Kenya have few elected leaders but have managed two slots out of eight. Wetangula is the only Ford Kenya senator and has been awarded the Minority Leader,” the Standard quoted an ODM MP.
At the same time, Mbadi's selection is reportedly facing opposition by a section of ODM MPs who feel that his prime position would require them to forfeit leadership posts in critical House Committees to suit the balancing equation.
The coalition has, however, planned a retreat to resolve the internal issues and to come up with a more representative team.
