According to a leaked letter obtained by P Live, the officials, who are attending the African Football Symposium in Rabat since Tuesday July 18, have proposed that some of the Afcon matches be played outside the continent as from 2023.
They have identified China, Qatar and USA with 3 to 4 slots for countries from oversees in a format which will see the number of teams participating in the tournament’s final phase increase from 16 to 24.
The proposal is expected to be adopted in Caf’s Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday July 20.
