Nineteen-time Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia have for the next three seasons entered a shirt sponsorship deal with gambling firm Betafriq.

The deal announced on Tuesday will see Gor receive financial support to the tune of Sh229 million.

Out of the Sh229.5 million, Sh76.5 million will be released annually. From this, Sh5 million will go to providing kits for the players as well as Sh1.5 million to cater for each player’s insurance.
Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier who was present at the unveiling ceremony at Ole Sereni Hotel reiterated that the new sponsorship would go a long way to preventing a delay in salaries as previously witnessed.
“This is a superb deal which is a new dawn for us and will provide financial assistance to us for the next three years. As a club, we have always delayed in paying salaries and that was brought about when we lost our previous sponsor due to the effect of Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
K’Ogalo’s Secretary-General Sam Ochola echoed what his boss Rachier said, saying the club is finally pleased to have a sponsor come on board as the team prepares itself for pre-season training.
“In this sponsorship, we have a medical scheme aspect and we shall now look for a company to award the deal so that our players are well taken care of. The money will be enough to pay salaries and meet other logistics at the club. What we expect of our players is to win the league next season,” said Ochola.
Betafriq General Manager Craig Oyugi emphasised that the brand was drawn by the club’s historical dominance of the league and reassured all the fans that they plan to meet all their financial obligations.
“It is a pleasure to support this club and we hope to grow our brand with them to become even bigger. We promise that all financial obligations will be met and we wish the club well so that they can continue dominating the Kenyan Premier League,” said Oyugi.
The sponsorship comes only days after Kenya’s most successful men’s football team parted ways with coach Andreas Spiers.
The club made the announcement on July 5, expressing their gratitude for his service. Spiers had stayed in the club for six months.
During his short tenure, Spiers guided K’Ogalo to a Madaraka Day Cup victory against arch-rival AFC Leopards. The exhibition match between the country's most supported clubs saw both teams draw 1-1 on normal time before the Gor Mahia edged AFC 7-6 on penalties.
