Yesterday saw the completion of the first round of games in the group stages. Switzerland defeated Cameroon while Uruguay and South Korea played out a goalless draw. Portugal edged out Ghana in a 3-2 thriller before Brazil beat Serbia 2-0

Wales start today's action with a clash against Iran before Qatar host Senegal. Netherland and Ecuador clash in the evening game before England take on USA in the night's action

Here is how Wales and Iran line-up.

Gareth Bale leads out Wales but he is in danger of missing the final group game if he picks up a yellow card today. Mehdi Taremi of FC Porto leads the line for Iran

Both countries sang out their national anthems passionately, but Iran players failed once again to sing in protest against their government. There were a few tears from Iran fans in the stadium as Iran national anthem rang out in the stadium.

We are underway at the  Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, Qatar

Lively start from both teams, with Wales firing the first shot of the game, but Harry Wilson's strike was over the bar.

By the way, this is our team of the opening round following the completion of first set of matches of the group stages

Iran have been slightly the better team, creating a couple of half chances.

Wales 0-0 Iran. Iran had the ball in the back of the net following a nice team move, but Ali Gholizadeh's effort was ruled out for offside.

A shame that goal was ruled out because it would have been one of the goals of the tournament

The tempo of the game has slowed down but Iran are still shading possession.

Wales 0-0 Iran. The match started brightly, but it slowed down as the match went on. Hopefully, we get a goal in the second half.

Wales 0-0 Iran. We are back for the second half.

The second half has started on a slow note, but Iran have just gone close twice, hitting the post in two quick succession. Sardar Azmoun hit the post first after he was played in on goal before Ali Gholizadeh fired in a brilliant curler against the post almost immediately

I hope Iran do not rue this missed chances. They are edging closer to an opening goal with Wales on the back foot.

Change for Wales. Brenan Johnson and Daniel James comes on for Connor Roberts and Harry Wilson

Change for Iran too.  Karim Ansarifard replaces Sardar Azmoun

Corner kick for Iran, whose play just need a goal.

Again, they could not make it count.  Reminder: A draw does not do Iran any good, but it keeps their hopes alive.

Another corner for the Iranians. Can they make it count this time? No they can't. But the pressure is now on

Big save from Wayne Hennessy whose touch denied Saeid Ezatolahi's stunning drive.

How has Iran not scored in this game? The have done everything except scoring. They have hit the post twice and had a goal disallowed. Into the final ten minutes.
This will be the most football thing to happen.

Another change for Iran. Saeid Ezatolahi replaces Ali Karimi.

Drama! Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy has just been sent off for a dangerous play after rushing out in an attempt to beat Iran striker to the ball.

Hennessy can have no issue with the red card. Fully deserved

Iran now piling up the pressure, trying to take advantage as Mehdi Torab hits his shot wide. Meanwhile, Danny Ward has replaced Hennessy in goal, with Ramsey going off for the Leicester City goalkeeper.

Nine minutes of addittional time. Can Iran find a winner?

Suprisingly, it is Wales who have gone close to scoring a late winner.

Wales 0-1 Iran. And just as I sent that, Iran take the lead through Roozbeh Cheshmi.

The Esteghlal centre-back fired in a brilliant shot from the edge of the box to give Iran a deserved lead.

Wales 0-2 Iran. Ramin Rezaeiani doubles and seals the victory for Iran with a delicate chip over Ward. Fully deserved victory for Iran.

FT Wales 0-2 Iran. Iran left it late, but they are finally alive and kicking at the 2022 World Cup. As for Wales, their hopes of qualifying for the second round now hang on a thing thread.

The goal that set Iran on their way to a 2-0 win over Wales.

That was a thrilling end to the first game of the day. Up next, is hosts Qatar vs Senegal.

Qatar are looking to bounce back after their opening defeat against Ecuador while Senegal will also be looking to do the same after losing to The Netherlands.

Here is how Senegal line-up. Edouard Mendy keeps his place in goal but there is no room for the injured, Kouyate
How Qatar lineup

The national anthems are done. We await the kickoff

We are underway in the second match of the day

Senegal have started quite well, but they have no choice as failure to win would put them on the brink of exit

First chance of the game falls to Diatta, who forces a save from Qatar goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham. By the way, Barsham is not the same goalkeeper that started the clash against Ecuador.

Another chance goes begging for Senegal, but Idrissa Gueye could not hit the target.

Penalty shout for Qatar after Akram Afif went down in the box, but referee Mateo Lahoz waved off their appeals. Senegal need to be careful here.

Qatar 0-1 Senegal. They were living dangerously minutes ago, but Senegal have their goal as Boulaye Dia captialised on a poor clearance from Qatar to put the African Champions ahead

Just the goal Senegal needed before half-time.

Seven minutes of added time is over.

HT. Qatar 0-1 Senegal.

Dia's opener

Qatar 0-1 Senegal. Second half underway.

Qatar 0-2 Senegal. We are just settling in and Senegal have doubled their lead from a corner kick.

Famara Diedhiou headed in to put Aliou Cisse's men in a comfortable position

Qatar have responded well since Senegal scored their second goal, and they just drew a massive save from Mendy.

Qatar 1-2 Senegal. It has been coming, but Qatar finally have their goal as Mohammed Muntari rose highest to pull one back for Qatar

Qatar 1-3 Senegal. Just as Qatar thought they could find a way back, Senegal killed their hopes with a third strike, courtesy of Bamba Dieng. Game over

Six minutes of additional time.

FT- Qatar 1-3 Senegal. The African champions pick up their first win to keep up their hopes alive of qualifying for the second round. However, it is the end of the road for Qatar.

That's it for our morning coverage. Up next is the evening coverage. Thank you for joining us.
