Gor Mahia reclaim league summit

K’Ogalo picked a point while Tusker lost in their respective matches to swap positions on the log.

The Green Army battled to a 2-2 draw against Ulinzi Stars to snatch a point which eventually saw them past defending champions Tusker.

K’Ogalo took an early lead in the 33rd minute through Karim Nizigiyimana then doubled the margin with an own goal from Hassan Mohammed at the start of the second stanza.

Ulinzi Stars would then pile up pressure to cancel out the goals courtesy of on-form Stephen Waruru, who struck past Peter Odhiambo in the 76th and 90th minutes respectively.

The top scorer’s celebration style with his middle finger up after his second goal provoked Gor Mahia fans resulting in interruption of the match by the furious fans, who felt offended by the gesture. However, the 2-2 result stood and each team walked home with one point each at the end of the duel.

Elsewhere in Kinoru Stadium, Tusker, who went to the match while occupying the league’s top spot, lost 0-1 to Bandari to relinquish their position to Gor Mahia on goal difference, both teams having 28 points apiece.

On the same day, Kakamega Homeboyz beat Sony Sugar 1-0, Posta Rangers drew 1-1 against Chemelil Sugar while Mathare United registered a 0-0 draw against Zoo Kericho.

On Saturday, four matches were played where AFC Leopards lost 2-0 to newbies Kariobangi Sharks courtesy of Ebrimma Sanneh and Mathew Odongo.

As it stands now, Gor Mahia are first on the log, followed by Tusker then Ulinzi Stars, who have 26 points. Posta Rangers and Kariobangi Sharks occupy the fourth and fifth places respectively.

Western Stima, Mathare United and Thika United are at positions 18, 17 and 16 in that order.
