Kenyan football has received a major boost after Spanish football league La Liga on Thursday morning unveiled its partnership with the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

The deal will among other things see the Kenya All Stars team travel to Spain for a friendly game.

The partnership comes on the back of the recent agreement between the European league giant and SportPesa to see the betting firm become The Official African Betting Partner of La Liga.

La Liga President Javier Tebas said that the agreement was part of their international expansion strategy that prioritizes growth of the game Africa.

“The presence of La Liga in Kenya means that we just don’t see La Liga on TV or in the newspapers, but with a representative on the ground gives the partnership life,” said Tebas during the unveiling.

KPL Chairman Ambrose Rachier welcomed La Liga’s move ding adding that it would offer capacity for KPL administrators in Spain in welcoming their entry into the country.

“La Liga is a very valuable partner and it is my call to clubs owners and administrators, players, coaches, medical personnel, as well as the media to take the challenge of putting into practice the lessons which will be learnt from our association with La Liga seriously.”

SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri on his side expressed delight on the agreement saying that the KPL will have an opportunity to learn.

“This is what happens when sports gets sponsorship. We are happy La Liga have agreed to partner with KPL. It gives the league an opportunity to learn.”

The partnership will see La Liga improve the management of the KPL as well as provide medical experts who will work with the league’s medical committee in matters doping, player’s health among others.

KPL Executives and Administrators will also have the chance to visit clubs in Spain to learn management structures with La Liga.
