Ethiopia’s Tirunesh Dibaba and Aselefech Mergia finished second and third clocking times of 2:17:56 and 2:23:08 respectively.

The win was Keitany's third victory in London after taking first place in 2011 and 2012.

In the men’s race, Kenya’s Daniel Wanjiru won in 2:05:56 to hold off a stiff challenge from pre-race favourite Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia.

The victory was the biggest career win for Wanjiru as he enters the elite club of marathon greats.

Wanjiru was fourth in the Prague Marathon after clocking 2:09:00 and later won the Amsterdam Marathon in a course record and personal best 2:05:21 in October last year.
