Wanyama’s surprise gift to Kenya Sevens rugby team in London (Photos)
The Kenyan team won their first ever HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series title last year in Singapore.
Tottenham’s midfielder and Harambee Star’s captain Victor Wanyama paid a courtesy call to the Shujaa team before their final leg rugby World Series tie in London.
Wanyama recalled the historic Kenya Sevens maiden and only main cup title in Singapore last year and urged them to emulate the same diuring the last leg series in London.
“Ningependa kuwaish well…Mukue na hio morale muko nayo..Najua munaeza fanya mambo na mukabeba hii kitu..ni kujiamini tu vile mulibeba Singapore..,” Wanyama said.
Wanyama said he had not physically carried anything along with him but he promised to reward the sevens players with over Sh200, 000 as a morale booster to the team.
The Kenyan team won their first ever HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series title last year in Singaporeafter they beat Fiji to win their first-ever main cup title.
It had taken the Kenyan Sevens team 140 tournaments to finally win their maiden main cup title making them only the second African nation after South Africa to win a World Series leg.
They had previously managed to finish runners-up only twice during that period.
