Tergat a high performing Kenyan athlete in his heyday and a former world record holder, will be up against his mentor in athletics, Kipchoge Keino.
Among the federations that have assured Tergat of support, is the Football Kenya Federation, Kenya Hockey Union, Kenya Table Tennis Association, Kenya Judo Association, Tennis Kenya, Kenya Rugby Union and the Boxing Association of Kenya.
Tergat a high performing Kenyan athlete in his heyday and a former world record holder, will be up against his mentor in athletics, Kipchoge Keino, who is currently the man at the NOCK helm, as well as the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) chairman Waithaka Kioni.
Speaking during his official campaign launch on April 4 , the celebrated athlete said he is humbled to receive massive support from heads of various sports federations and promised to repay their trust.
“I am humbled to get support from all these federations across the board and it is great to know that as I embark on this journey I have their backing, and I will work to repay their trust if entrusted with the job,” he said.
If elected, Tergat said he will direct energies at promoting professionalism among Kenyan sportsmen as well as fight doping across board.
“As the president of NOCK I will work to ensure we promote professionalism amongst Kenyan sportsmen and foster the international recognition as full time sports professionals. I will also work hard to see that sports remains clean and credible,” he added.
