Team Kenya bagged medals at the African Confederation Boxing Championships ahead of the global contest.
A team of 12 boxers were at the championships and returned home on Monday with five medals including one gold won by lightweight boxer Nick Okoth, who beat Reda Benbaziz of Algeria at the finals.
“Our players and coaches did their best to realize the good results. It is a good record owing to the fact that Okoth made it with a gold after a long period of time,” Kameta said.
Two of the 12 boxers were women; Elizabeth Akinyi (middleweight) and Christine Ongare, who won bronze medals.
The team qualified for the AIBA World Boxing Championships set for Germany between August 25 and September 3.
