Teacher in Bungoma charged with defiling girl in school library

It is alleged the suspect is a known serial defiler who lures teenagers into his sexual escapades

Joseph Okumu, a primary school teacher in Bungoma was charged on Monday with defiling an 11-year-old pupil.

The suspect allegedly abused the standard seven learner at the school library on March 8.

Okumu denied the accusations before Principal Magistrate Stephen Mogute, who heard the case in camera since it involved a minor.

The victim's mother claimed the school's administration had tried to interfere with the case.

"The incident took place last term but I learned about it when my daughter narrated the story this month," she said. "I took her to hospital for a check-up and it was confirmed that she was defiled."

The woman said this case was not the first against the teacher.

Escapades

"The suspect is a known serial defiler who lures teenagers into his sexual escapades."

The suspect was arrested on May 9 by detectives from Bungoma police station.

He will he held at this station until June 4 when the case will be heard.
