Fresh details have emerged on why NASA strategist and economist David Ndii was arrested on Sunday at Leopard Beach Hotel in Kwale County.

According to police sources who spoke to a local daily, Ndii was planning to meet outlawed Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) and other associates at the coast.

The officers disclosed that they had placed the vocal critique of the Jubilee Government under 24-hour surveillance.

"We have been monitoring his movements and meetings. We had information he may have been planning meetings in Mombasa with MRC members or associates,” the officer was quoted by the Star.

However, the Flying squad officers who raided his room failed to find any information indicating that he was planning to meet the outlawed group.

The renowned economist was transported to Nairobi and taken to DCI headquarters for questioning.

Ndii was charged with inciting the public through a post on social media and an interview he had on TV.

He was later released on a police bond of Sh10,000 on Monday evening after DPP Keriako Tobiko ordered his immediate release.

NASA leader Raila Odinga condemned the arrest stating that the Government was trying to intimidate the Opposition through arrests.

At the same time, Ndii's wife Mwende Gatabaki hit out at the government stating that there was no transparency in the arrest of the husband.

"My husband is not a criminal, he is not corrupt. Where is my man? ~ she posed.
