Former Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero over the weekend hit out at incumbent Mike Sonko for having ‘failed to deliver on his promises to Nairobians.’
Speaking over the weekend during a fundraising ceremony in aid of Wikoteng’ Secondary School in Asumbi, Homa Bay County, Dr Kidero, who has on numerous occasions been accused by Sonko of his current woes, said that he would restore Nairobi’s lost glory.
“We shall restore Nairobi to its former glory because those in leadership have failed,” he said.
While Kidero failed to explain how he would do that, he hinted at going for a ‘higher seat’ in the 2022 General Elections, ending earlier speculations that he was angling to dethrone embattled Homa Bay governor Cyprian Awiti.

“Those who have been saying that I am seeking to unseat Governor Awiti if a by-election ensues must now desist because that is not true. I am going for a bigger seat,” said Dr Kidero.
Other lawmakers who were present, including Ayub Savula (Lugari), Lilian Gogo (Rangwe) and Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) backed Dr Kidero’s claim that Governor Sonko had failed Nairobi residents.
Sonko on numerous occasions has been accusing his predecessor of sabotaging his efforts to deliver to Nairobians. He has been accusing Kidero of ‘installing’ cartels at City Hall.
