IEBC takes action against Jubilee MP after harassing their official
The MP was caught on Camera harassing the official
The electoral body want Kandara MP Alice Wahome prosecuted for committing an electoral offence and intimidation of election officials.
“We take great exception the manner in which MP Alice Wahome harassed an IEBC official performing his duties. Such is an electoral offence that must be punished." read IEBC statement
The Kandara MP was caught on Camera harassing the Kandara Constituency Returning Officer Mr. Martin Malonza at Ng’araria Girls Secondary School, demanding to sign Form 34B as Jubilee Party’s chief agent in the area.
According to the IEBC official, however, he had waited so long for Ms Wahome to come and append her signature on the result declaration form, as required by the constitution, but the MP was nowhere to be found.
Malonza says that all efforts to reach the lawmaker including calling her cell phone were futile, leaving him with no alternative but to plead with other Jubilee party agents to sign on her behalf, who insisted that was not possible.
“When the MP did not arrive after waiting for more than three hours, I decided to indicate on the form that the party agent was nowhere to be found. This is because I had to deliver the form at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi on time,” said Malonza.
Malonza says the MP roughed him up and blocked him from leaving just a few meters from the center.
