Orengo reveals the legal strategy they will use to swear in Raila

Orengo spoke four days to Raila's inauguration

Orengo, who is Senior Counsel, stated that the NASA coalition planned to swear in Odinga within the confines of the existing constitution and all other Kenyan laws.

The veteran lawyer explained that taking an oath was not outlawed, adding that the current constitution does not define an unlawful oath.

Orengo was responding after Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai stated that Odinga would be guilty of treason if he went ahead to be sworn in as President.

However, the Siaya Senator went further to explain that treason was a hard charge to prove, adding that NASA’s plan would not seek to overthrow the Government of Kenya.

“First, treason entails the overthrow or plotting to overthrow the Government of Kenya, through unlawful means, the emphasis is on overthrow. What  we are planning to have has nothing to do with anything that is outside the laws of the land”.

“Taking an oath does not constitute treason unless I need to go back to law school. But on this point, between me and the Attorney General, he is the one who needs to go back to law school,” Orengo stated.

On Thursday, Prof Muigai declared that any attempt to swear in Mr Odinga as president is treasonable and any persons involved in the scheme will be prosecuted.
