I know the goons who are being sought after, embattled EALA MP Simon Mbugua on Tuesday said, hours after he was released after a grilling at Nairobi’s Central Police Station.
Mr Mbugua, who was linked to the four goons, who harassed former Nairobi Central Business District Association chairman, Mr Timothy Muriuki, explained that he knew the goons, adding that they have been wandering around City Hall.
Mr Mbugua revealed that the four accused men are political brokers, adding that police were better placed to explain why they have not arrested the four.
“They are political brokers…everybody knows them because they hang around City Hall. I don’t personally know them, but I know them,” Mr Mbugua told KTN News on Tuesday.

He added: "They are people who hang around in politician's functions and can easily be found. The police arrested me just because I was mentioned. And they did this also because I am a close friend to the Governor."

The statement by Mbugua raised more eyebrows given he is a close ally to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who was earlier linked to the goons that disrupted Mr Muriuki’s press conference.
Police on Tuesday afternoon pounced on Mr Mbugua, Anthony Otieno Aboo alias Jamal, Solomon Benjamin Onyango alias Solo, and Stephen Sangira, at the Sagret Hotel in Nairobi.
On Tuesday morning, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, led by county chief Ireri Kamwende, summoned the legislator to the Nairobi Police Headquarters.
“We asked him to come and give us information about the attack on the businessman in order to facilitate the investigations,” Mr Kamwende said.
However, Mr Mbugua replied that he was having lunch at the Sagret Hotel, so they went for him there.
An officer involved in the operation said that as they were interrogating Mr Mbugua, he called someone, asking the person to mobilise youths to demonstrate to prevent his arrest. He also called some media houses, telling them he would issue a press statement.
