They had placed a bet of a substantive amount of money on the bet

It appears that the World Cup has caused massive dents to wallets of gamblers after some high-profile teams have been knocked out.

They were accused of using abusive words in public due to the alcohol they had consumed on July 2, 2018, at around 10pm.

The court heard that the two were arrested by police officers on patrol who booked them at Embu Police Station.

The accused admitted to being drunk claiming it was to ease the pain they were feeling after their team, Spain, lost a match against Russia and were bundled out in the Round-of-16 stage of the World Cup.

Pain

They duo said the much of the pain was also due to the fact that they had placed a bet of a substantive amount of money on Spain, adding that they could not contain the loss and found themselves cursing.

They pleaded for leniency saying they would not repeat the crime and were sent to jail for one month or a fine of Ksh.500.
