President Uhuru Kenyatta has made a rare and personal confession on the circumstances in which he met and married his wife, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
Speaking at State House on Wednesday, Uhuru confessed that he first met Margaret while he was a young boy and had gone swimming with his father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
He added that it was his father who pushed him to start a friendship with Margaret and ultimately to their marriage which started in 1989.
"I first met Margaret when I was out swimming with my father and he nudged me to befriend her. I have now known her for most of my life. She is my friend, partner and strong supporter. Strong and successful women make a strong and successful Kenya. Happy International ," Uhuru stated.
In a past interview, the President had admitted that it took many years to convince Margaret to be his wife after their first meeting in Mombasa.
"When I met her she wasn't the First Lady, she was just another wonderful, beautiful girl," he stated of his beloved wife.
The Head of State spoke at State House to a group of women leaders who were hosted by the First Lady to make International Women's day.
