Weather

The major storm across the Southeast will continue Sunday. Snow will persist across southern Virginia and a large portion of North Carolina, with several inches of accumulation expected. Some sleet and rain will mix in with the snow from around Raleigh down through Charlotte. Roads will be slippery, resulting in dangerous travel conditions throughout the North Carolina Piedmont, the mountains and upstate South Carolina.

South and east of Interstate 85, mostly rain is expected for coastal North Carolina and much of South Carolina. The rain may be heavy at times, so watch for flooding. Farther south, along the cold front, thunderstorms will slowly cross Florida, where downpours may be heavy enough to cause flash flooding and locally damaging wind gusts.

Precipitation will end as a brief period of rain, snow and possibly sleet on the western side of the storm in western Tennessee.

Another cold front will spread rain through the Pacific Northwest. Mountain snow in the Cascades can slow travel over the passes, but it will be largely dry east of the mountains.

Elsewhere in the country, it is expected to be dry yet cool.
