In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper aka dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD tackles a cyst located right behind a patients ear. And this thing looks like a bendy straw when snaking out of its home.
In the clip, Dr. Lee uses a surgical punch to excise a small circle of tissue from the center of the cyst. With a firm squeeze, a tube of straw-like cyst contents comes snaking out in a satisfying fashion. Once the tube of contents is removed, Dr. Lee then digs into the hole to excise the cysts sac. Removing the sac virtually guarantees the cyst will not return, which is the ultimate goal here.
In the comments of clips like this, some fans express distain for the type of tool used, claiming it looks too gruesome or harsh. But Dr. Lee explained in a previous video why she sometimes uses this punch-like tool for removals.
If it is smaller and deeper under the skin, I use the punch, she said. For bigger pops, I use the scalpel. At the end of the day, I want to make sure that I can create the cleanest suture and the smallest, if any, scar for that area.
