Dr. Pimple Popper said a farewell to summer by taking out a few cysts known as solar comedos, follicles misshapen by sun exposure in her latest video. The TLC host, Dr. Sandra Lee , MD, used a set of tiny tweezers to root out the frustratingly short hair follicles on the patients nose and cheek, demolishing the blackheads in her path.
The video is about a 3 (of 10) on the gross-out scale, a 7 on the vicariously experienced pain measure and an 8 on the demonstration of skill ruler. (Those hairs are tiny!)
Lets see if I can get this one little that is driving me crazy, Lee says, as she alternates between putting pressure on the skin to the side and grasping the follicle on her tweezers for a yank. Theyre like little filaments; theyre like little hairs under there.
Solar comedos are deep furrows of blocked follicles, often caused by years of sun exposure. (Tobacco smoking is another suspected cause.) The skin can take on a yellowed, dotted appearance. They often manifests in older patients and are no doubt more common in the sunlit inland California region that Dr. Pimple Popper calls home.
Happy Labor Day, everyone! Here's a reminder to bring the sunscreen!
