A team of six Kenyan lawyers, among them Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, has launched a bid to sue Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines following the tragic March 10 crash.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the lawyers announced that they will be seeking compensation for the families of Kenyans who died in the crash in the suit to be filed in the United States.

Senator Kang'ata encouraged the families not to be afraid to face the big American firm in court.

Kenya as a nation lost 36 citizens who were aboard the plane when it crashed in Bishoftu town six minutes after take-off from Bole International Airport.

The number was the highest among the 157 passengers who perished.

US lawyer's advice ahead of case against Boeing

The lawyers conveyed that they had managed to get verbal commitments from eight families over the matter while two families had contracted them to conduct the suit.

American lawyer Carlos Velásquez who is among the six explained that the families have a strong case in light of the Indonesian crash that had similarities with the Ethiopian one.

Mr Velásquez is a lawyer who specializes in aviation law, wrongful death and personal injury.
