Kenya’s National Assembly majority leader and Member of Parliament of Garissa Township Aden Bare Duale is now accusing former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan of having had a hand in the outcome of the just concluded elections at the African Union Commission meeting, last month in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.
Duale has poured cold water on the former UN premier saying that he manipulated the results that saw Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed lose, in a close range, to the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson post to Chad's Moussa Mahamat.
Strong believe
A delegation from the office of the president who flanked Amina to Ethiopia’s meeting had assured President Uhuru Kenyatta of a win in the election for the post.
Duale, on his part, said that the delegation had every reason to believe that Annan, who mediated the 2007/8 post-election crisis, influenced the vote outcome, sparking online political outrage in Nairobi.
"A number of issues which were at play. I even saw a group of activists led by Kofi Annan at the ICC discrediting our candidate," Duale told journalists.
Duale has also accused French speaking nations from West Africa, saying that there is a conspiracy by their mother-colonial masters to “recolonise Africa," he said.
He argued that over than 15 heads of state abstained from the vote in a show of the country's influence, leading to the collapse of Kenya’s highly awaited win for Amina.
Morocco’s return
In his long address to journalists, Duale pulled a trudge on the return of Morocco to the African Union which has been in the cold for over three decades now. He has raised issues with Anglophone and Francophone relations.
On her part, however, speaking shortly after the highly contested election, Amina, 56, called for an initiation of a thorough investigation into Kenya’s neighbor countries including Uganda and Tanzania, murmured to have voted for Chad's Moussa Mahamat.
