The body of one Anthony Kioko was the centre of controversy after a hearse hired to transport it dumped it in the middle of the street on Sunday.

A coffin bearing the remains of the deceased was dumped at the Likoni Ferry Channel after the driver of the hearse was accosted by Kioko's friends who wanted to view the body.

The driver felt distressed by the rowdy crowd and decided to leave the body in the street despite having been paid to transport the body to Vanga.

According to Kioko's brother Simon Joseph, the deceased had been a tomato vendor at the Likoni Ferry for five years.

Some of the friends who stopped the hearse blamed the driver for being insensitive to their grief.

"He was one of us. We even contributed to hire the hearse. why are they denying us a chance to view his body yet not all of us will attend the burial in Vanga," one of the vendors questioned.

Mr Joseph narrated that the traders could not be stopped from viewing the body as they overpowered the hearse driver and he later sped off.

Wife of deceased faints

Nancy Muthoni, the deceased man's wife, collapsed when the hearse removed the coffin and was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
