Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday night raised alarm over what he alleged was spying on his home and offices by officers from the Special Branch.

Sonko took to his Facebook page where he claimed that his Upper Hill private office and residence were under surveillance.

Nyinyi SPECIAL BRANCH why do you waste tax payers money booking three rooms in a five star hotel just behind my upperhill private office and residence near Geo maps building. Out of the three rooms, GLOBAL LOGSTICS/ INTERNS FROM MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS/ AWAN AFRCA, room 239 on the 2nd floor which is direct opposite my house is being used to release a useless drone to monitor my private office and residence,” he posted.

He claimed the spies were using drones to monitor his movement, fearing that his lives could be in danger.

The County boss said he was not afraid of death.

If you want to take away my life just come for it anytime. I'm not a terrorist for you to misuse public funds in looking for it. Everyone will die including yourselves,” Sonko posted.

It was not clear from which department the alleged spies came from since the Special Branch has been disbanded for years.

The Special Branch was a security unit that mainly focused on pursuing government critics during President Daniel arap Moi’s administration.

The unit was disbanded after Moi’s exit from power in 2002.
