Interior CS Fred Matiangi has finally issued a formal statement confirming Thursday October 10th to be a public holiday.

In a statement, Matiang'i asked Kenyans to observe Moi Day by engaging in selfless acts that will promote patriotism and service to future generations.

This will be the second time that Moi Day will be marked as a public holiday since the promulgation of the new constitution in 2010.

The constitution removed Moi Day as a national holiday but the High Court would in 2017 rule that the day would qualify as a public holiday unless the Public Holidays Act was amended.

Matiang'i had in 2018 indicated that his ministry was working with Parliament to amend the Public Holidays Act and remove Moi Day as a public holiday.

However, the process has been delayed until 2019 - much to the enjoyment of Kenyans - particularly those in formal employment who are keen to have a free day.
