The Judiciary has written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) concerning a planned renovation of the Chief Justice's house.

The house located in Nairobi's Runda Estate was purchased at Sh310 million during former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga's tenure to serve as the official residence of the holder of the CJ's office.

In a letter, Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi, states that the house is rundown and not fit to live in.

"We wrote to Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) asking whether we can proceed to renovate the house and whether doing so would jeopardize a court case.

"By the time we got a response, it was a whole process because our request had to undergo a lot of processing withing the EACC and the courts," Amadi conveyed during an appearance before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

The CJ's residence was seized during Gladys Boss Shollei's tenure when she and others were accused of acquiring it without prior planning.

Ms Amadi added: "We want to repair this house and we have about Sh50 million to undertake the works."

The house was fully furnished at the time of purchase.
