Evans Echoki, the Mombasa county commissioner, said that all night weddings must have police presence for them to be legally abiding.
He further asked religious leaders to corporate with the new directive. “We know this is the period where weddings happen. If you are planning to hold a wedding that will go into late into the night, notify the chief.” Said the commissioner.
The coast has had a series of terror attacks this year. Recently, two university staff members were killed after the vehicle they driving in was attacked by armed bandits. In August, Al-Shabaab militants attacked a passenger bus where three people were killed.
In July, Publics Works Permanent Secretary was kidnapped by suspected Al Shabaab militia. She was however rescued.
